I am committed to providing genuine, high-quality counseling. I’ve received excellent training and don’t rely on gimmicks or false promises. I don’t focus on ego boosts or “inner child” healing, and I avoid relying on clichés or pop psychology. My approach is rooted in active, reflective listening, and I provide practical tools to help you make real progress. I’m not interested in encouraging dependence; my goal is to offer meaningful support that helps you move forward. Many people report feeling better after just the first session!
-
My background is in academic advising, and my college had the best counseling program around at Idaho State University. I was interested in human development and existentialism, which aligned perfectly with studying counseling. I cherished my instructors, and excelled at connecting with clients easily and quickly. Counseling can help anyone, regardless of age or background, who is seeking support with emotions, relationships, personal growth, or mental health challenges. Counseling provides a safe space to explore and address those concerns…. it’s for anyone who feels ready to make positive changes, gain clarity, or find new ways of navigating life's challenges. It’s a valuable tool for anyone seeking growth and healing.
-
The formal term for the process is "psychotherapy," which is what is billed to your insurance. Professionals with master’s degrees in Counseling, like myself, often refer to the process as Counseling. Other professionals, such as social workers, may use the term Therapy, even though the process is essentially the same. While both terms are used interchangeably, I recommend working with a counselor like me or a psychologist with a PhD for a higher level of expertise and training.
-
You might benefit from counseling if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unable to manage stress, emotions, or challenges on your own. Signs include persistent anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, grief, or difficulty adjusting to life changes. Counseling can also help if you’re seeking personal growth, clarity, or improved coping skills. Ultimately, counseling is for anyone seeking support, understanding, or ideas.
-
The frequency of counseling sessions depends on your needs and goals. Typically, clients meet weekly to maintain momentum and build progress. Some people prefer more frequent sessions initially, especially when addressing acute issues, while others may transition to monthly or as-needed sessions as they improve. Together, we’ll determine a schedule that works best for you.
-
Yes, you choose the topics we focus on! Counseling works best when you come in with at least a general idea of what you’d like to address—whether it’s specific challenges, emotions, or goals. This helps us make the most of our time together. This is your journey!
-
Yes! I often assign homework or activities outside of sessions, using tools like Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These might include journaling ideas, tracking thoughts and feelings, or trying new coping strategies to manage stress and emotions. Homework is designed to help you apply what we discuss to your daily life, deepening your self-awareness and building practical skills. It’s always tailored to your needs and comfort level.
-
You bet! Just email me and we’ll discuss rates and some options for you.
-
For late cancellations (within 24 hours,) there is a $75 fee.
-
For the first session, there’s no need to prepare anything specific, other than having a general idea of what you’d like to work on. It can be helpful to think about any challenges, emotions, or goals you’d like to explore, but don’t worry if you’re not sure. Together, we’ll create treatment goals that feel right for you. The first session is about getting to know each other and understanding what’s most important for you to focus on. Just bring an open mind, and we’ll take it from there.
-
Yes! Absolutely. What we discuss in sessions stays between us. Your privacy is important, and I follow strict ethical guidelines to protect your information. There are a few exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law (e.g., court orders). But, unless one of these situations arises, you can trust that everything you share will remain private. If you ever have questions about confidentiality, feel free to ask, and I’ll be happy to discuss it further. Your safety and trust are my top priorities.
